Murrieta Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) School Counseling programs, spanning elementary, middle, and high schools, actively foster Career Readiness. Counseling teams annually review and enhance existing activities to ensure they are comprehensive and can be expanded to benefit the entire school community.

Career Exploration - Middle School

In middle school, our counselors engage with students through platforms such as CA Colleges. Our 6th –12th grade students all have free California Colleges accounts through the Cradle to Career initiative and our collaboration with RCOE College and Career unit. Students take career inventories to learn about their interests and learning styles, conduct in-depth research on potential career paths and colleges, and finally gain exposure to the diverse high school career technical pathways available. Furthermore, they collaboratively learn about academic planning.

Career Preparation - High School

High school marks a crucial stage in the journey towards a successful career. Here, students undergo rigorous preparations. In their 9th-grade ICT/Careers course, they take a robust aptitude test, named 'YouScience.' Counselors guide our students through the California Colleges platform in 10th –12th in grade level appropriate inventories and lessons. Our counselors also work closely with each student to build a comprehensive academic plan that aligns with their chosen path, be it in Career and Technical Education (CTE), college credit courses, or other career pursuits.

Post Secondary Options

Murrieta Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) is committed to empowering students and families with a wide range of post-secondary options to support future success. Whether students are interested in pursuing a traditional college education, hands-on vocational training, military service, or an apprenticeship, MVUSD provides access to valuable resources and guidance. Through partnerships with institutions like Mt. San Jacinto College, California Colleges, Cal-SOAP, and CSUSM’s Alliance program, students can explore two-year and four-year college opportunities, complete career assessments, and receive support with financial aid applications such as FAFSA and CADAA. For those considering military service, tools like the ASVAB and March2Success help prepare students for enlistment and career placement. Additionally, trade and vocational schools offer practical training for immediate entry into specialized careers. MVUSD ensures every student has the tools and support needed to navigate their unique journey beyond high school.

College

Community College (2yr): Community colleges, also known as junior colleges or technical colleges, are educational institutions that offer a variety of programs and degrees at the post-secondary level. Mt. San Jacinto Community College is Murrieta's local community college district partner.

College/University (4 yr): Four-year colleges and universities offer undergraduate programs that typically lead to bachelor's degrees in various fields of study.

All MVUSD 6th -12th grade students have a free account with California Colleges. Students have access to online career assessments which they will be guided to complete throughout their 6th - 12th grade years. This platform provides students and families access to the nation's 2-year and 4-year college applications and FAFSA/CADAA.

Cal-SOAP - MVUSD is proud to partner with the Cal-Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP) consortium, empowering our students and families as they pursue their college and career aspirations. Each school will have access to a dedicated college success coach, providing invaluable guidance through the post-secondary application journey, including support with the FAFSA and CADAA processes. FAFSA/CADAA - The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) are financial aid applications designed to help students access funds for higher education. The FAFSA helps determine eligibility for federal grants, loans, and work-study programs, as well as some state and institutional aid. The CADAA provides financial aid opportunities for eligible undocumented students who meet certain criteria set by California state law. Students are able to access FAFSA/CADAA through their California Colleges account.

Military

The military offers various opportunities for personal growth, education, training, and service to the nation. It provides a chance to develop leadership skills, receive specialized training, serve the country, and access benefits such as education assistance, healthcare, and career advancement. Additionally, it can offer a sense of purpose and camaraderie while serving a greater cause. Military branches: ARMY, NAVY, MARINES CORP, AIR FORCE, COAST GUARD and SPACE FORCE.

March2Success: The U.S. Army Recruiting Command is helping prospective recruits and other students improve their test-taking strategies and math, science, and English skills through March2Success, a free Web-based program. The curriculum was designed by Kaplan and Educational Options, Inc. Participants may select part of all of the sections offered through March2Success and are free to repeat lessons. Registrants may request recruiter contact through the site; however, they are not required to do so and will not be contacted without request.

Trade/Vocation

Trade or vocational schools offer specialized training in specific fields such as automotive technology, cosmetology, carpentry, plumbing, culinary arts, healthcare, and more.
