Principal's Message
Welcome to Murrieta Valley Unified School District’s Alternative Learning Options
Thank you for visiting our page and for your interest in our programs. Our goal in Alternative Education is to provide options for students and families who are seeking a different approach to learning. We understand that education is not a one‑size‑fits‑all solution; therefore, under the Alternative Education umbrella, we offer a variety of programs designed to support students and help them succeed.
Middle school students (6th–8th grade) can participate in a hybrid, online independent study program through our Learn@Home Program. High school students (9th–12th grade) may enroll in our full‑time Murrieta Canyon Academy Independent Study (MCA I.S.) program. In addition to Independent Study, we also offer an in‑person option at our Alternative High School of Choice, Murrieta Canyon Academy (MCA). This small‑campus setting emphasizes social‑emotional learning (SEL) and restorative practices. MCA is an excellent option for students who want a personalized educational experience with an engaging staff, small class sizes, individualized support, and a pathway to a traditional high school diploma.
Lastly, our district offers an in‑person Continuation High School, Murrieta Options Academy, for students who need a reduced‑credit diploma option in order to graduate on time. Please visit the “About Us” tab for additional information on each program.
Overall, MVUSD’s Alternative Learning Options provide something “different” for the students and families in our community. All programs share the same educational motto: helping our students S.O.A.R. to Success the Phoenix Way! We aim for our students to be Self‑Aware, Optimistic, Accountable, and Resilient—qualities that align with our district’s Profile of a Graduate and are essential for life readiness.
Our teachers, support staff, counselors, and administrators are excited to get to know you. We look forward to working with you as you continue your educational journey with us.
